I worked with the greatest team of epic vendors on the Boho Luxe editorial and we were thrilled to have the shoot featured by Together Journal. Read about the inspiration and scroll down to see more, along with the talented team involved.
Inspired by Vinka Design's stunning gowns, three were chosen to suit model Ella's relaxed, free spirited style which was where the Boho influence started. The French crochet lace gown Sabine, with it's long sleeves and low back, the embroidered 3-D lace and tulle Alicia gown and the dramatic, silhouette-hugging beaded Carlotta (which has to be one of my absolute favourite dresses!). Each of these bought a different element to the shoot whilst emulating the main aesthetic - Boho Luxe. I wanted to create a beautiful story for a couple who wants effortless, casual glamour for their elopement or micro wedding - a tranquil and earthy vibe that still has wedding elegance and timeless elements.
I chose The Officers Mess for the location with it's classic, neutral decor and most importantly for its stunning surroundings. With views straight across to Rangitoto, the Mess sits above Narrow Neck Beach which has striking stone cliffs - the perfect natural boho setting. I had planned on shooting outside on the deck but the Auckland weather thought otherwise. We just managed to capture our coastal portrait shots at the beach before the heavens opened up and our styled setting was rained out and moved inside! But with plenty of natural light, the interior of The Mess was ideal.
Gowns & shoes:
The three gowns chosen were the co-inspiration behind the theme. Chaos and Harmony's Ceremony heel in dusky pink and Freedom heel in snow complimented them well. Walking in to Vinka Design's showroom would surely have to be counted as one, if not THE highlight of preparing for your wedding day. Wall to wall gowns beautifully hand-made with intricate lace work, dramatic silhouettes, floaty tulle and exquisite fabrics. Every one of Anita's creations has a timeless elegance and she is the most wonderful designer to work with.
Crane Brothers are the epitome of contemporary tailoring in New Zealand. A soft linen blazer in grey to tie in with the soft metallics and a tailored white cotton chino trouser with Penny Loafers were chosen for Martins for that relaxed luxe look. White and navy shirts took us from day to night.
The Officers Mess is a wonderfully versatile space. The charming heritage building is a light and airy space and is set in a fantastic coastal location on top of the Pohutakawa cliffs of Auckland’s Narrow Neck Beach with a beautiful view of Rangitoto.
A tranquil colour palette that feels both simple and elegant but still brings in natural boho elements. Neutral tones of white, cream and tan and added metallic accents of gold and silver for a luxe feel.
Delicate and detailed neutral floral installations of dried blooms with silver and gold metallic accents.
Working with Wild Blooms is a dream. Not only are Stacey and Debbie sublimely talented, but they have a passion and positivity about everything they do. Stacey was along for the ride from the beginning and was always there to bounce ideas off and provide suggestions. Most importantly she listened and truly got me! These ladies brought to life my vision with their own flair and uniqueness and are such valued members of this team!
Makeup & Hair:
The Boho Luxe bride needs playfulness with a little bit of drama - pair a chic messy bun or pony with strong smokey eye makeup in earth tones.
Serenity is a magician with both a makeup and hair brush! Her work is beautiful with a wonderful attention to detail, and having one artist for both hair and makeup is my ideal scenario!
Flock Events' earthy, neutral-toned furniture and textured soft furnishings made for a relaxed, elegant picnic-styled setting. Tan occasional sling chairs and a cane sofa for both style and comfort when you don't want to sit on the floor in that stunning gown!
A subtle, Boho tablescape incorporates an eclectic mix of vintage and modern pieces. Gold chargers, white plateware, natural linen napkins, vintage bronze cutlery, a cotton crepe runner, vintage crystal, copper goblets and brass candlesticks. An elopement table setting designed to be curated by you with easy finds or even borrowed pieces.
Let there always be cake! Sweet Bites Cakes created a simple, elegant white cake with gorgeous gold leaf accents.
The Paper Gazelle’s modern bohemian bespoke signage was an excellent fit. Jay designed a customised wooden quote plaque, handmade vow books and the coolest bespoke freestanding Mr & Mrs place card signs all with gold tones to compliment the theme.
This Boho Luxe look was designed with an elopement or micro wedding in mind, for couples who want to connect with each other and their surroundings whilst still incorporating those special wedding elements.
